RenewABILITY Energy Inc. is positioned for substantial growth across the different markets (residential, industrial, commercial and institutional) for drain water heat recovery systems in North America, Europe and around the world. With a patented and patent-pending technology that targets the virtually untapped potential of these markets, the young, privately-owned company offers highly attractive opportunities for investors interested in energy related industries.
90% of the heat energy used to heat water is wasted after use. Yet much of that energy can be recovered and reused with a new class of falling film Drain Water Heat Recovery (DWHR) Systems. RenewABILITY Energy's Power-Pipe® is recognized as the undisputed DWHR technology of choice.
Sizeable opportunities exist in 5 major market sectors, all of which have new and retrofit applications that are well-suited to the Power-Pipe.
- Single-family Residential sector - 9.6 million water heaters are installed in existing and new homes in the U.S. and Canada annually. The purchase of a new water heater represents a favorable moment for homeowners to consider an energy efficient water heating system. 9.6 million can be seen as a conservative minimum of opportunities, because homeowners can also decide to install a Power-Pipe without replacing their water heater. In a typical home, the Power-Pipe can reduce overall water heating costs by up to 40%.
- Multi-Unit Residential sector - Developers and building owners are attracted to the Power-Pipe because it immediately lowers building operating costs and maintains them at a lower level throughout the life of a building. Additionally, the Power-Pipe enables developers to reduce overall water heating costs by up to 40% and to decrease greenhouse gas emissions as well as the carbon footprints of their properties.
- Commercial sector - Potential customers in this segment include health clubs, hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, laundries and others. In 2006, for example, there were more than 29,000 health clubs in the United States. Because of the large volume of water used in this sector, the savings generated are even higher than those in the residential sector. A commercial Power-Pipe System can reduce overall water heating costs by up to 70%.
- Industrial sector - Any industrial facility using hot or warm fluids for processes and operations, can obtain significant energy savings with a Power-Pipe System. Major applications include food processing, pulp and paper, chemicals and others. With a Power-Pipe System installed, industrial facilities can reduce their fluid-heating costs by up to 70%.
- Institutional sector - High-profile prospects include hospitals, healthcare facilities, schools and universities, arenas and sports facilities, military and other government installations. Institutions can save up to 70% of their overall water-heating costs.
RenewABILITY Energy is lead by a highly experienced management team with deep, expert industry knowledge.
Gerald Van Decker (P.Eng., M.A.Sc.), President and CEO: Gerald Van Decker is the inventor of the Power-Pipe and the key visionary for the Drain Water Heat Recovery (DWHR) market, both within Canada and internationally. He has worked for Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), where he was involved in project management and research and development activities in the field of Solar Heating Technologies. In July 2000, he left NRCan to start RenewABILITY Energy Inc. Gerald Van Decker holds a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor's Degree in Systems Design Engineering, both from the University of Waterloo. His Master's Thesis on modeling Transpired Solar Air Heaters (e.g. Solarwall) was published in the International Journal of Solar Energy. He has participated in International Energy Agency (IEA) tasks for market development in the water heating sector and he has worked for the research and development arm of Sweden's largest power utility, conducting research and development in the field of Solar Water Heating Technologies.
